Do you wonder why it seems difficult to lose weight or get rid of that unwanted fat hanging in your side belly. I know because I can relate. One of the concerning reasons is because of the food that we consume daily without being conscious about it. In this article we shall examine the relations of the sugar and how it affects our bodies, foods that helps you reduce weight, approach to exercise, and approach of life style.
Relations of foods with wellness
As the saying goes “you are what you eat” but is that really true? Does the food that we eat ultimately reflects on what we become? According to science, it’s true! Depending on what kind of food you consume, it will have an effect on your body. Food that contains high in sugar content can cause weight gain because the hormone “leptin” which regulates hunger and tells your body to stop eating can cause resistance against the leptin hormone. This may lead to unsatisfactory of eating thus increase in weight gain and build up of visceral fat in your body. Aside from gaining weight, there are other risks of consuming excessive sugar which may lead to unwanted disease.
One of them is “Type 2 Diabetes” which is notorious for causing blindness, kidney failure and other serious conditions. Consuming excessive sugar drives resistance to insulin, which is a hormone that regulates the blood sugar.
Another risks of unhealthy consumption of unnecessary sugar may increase your chance of acquiring diseases such as heart diseases. According to scientific evidence, it shows that high sugar consumption leads to obesity, inflammations, high triglycerides, blood sugar, and blood pressure levels which are all related to risks of heart disease.
And last but not least, the scariest of them all, “Cancer” which you may be at risk if you have a high consumption of sugar. Your body becomes prone to inflammation which cause the hormone insulin to resist it’s functions.
Food that are rich in wellness
As we talked about foods that may cause us harm in ourselves, I will also talk about some examples of foods that are essential in order to live a healthy and well life. Personally for me, I like to eat vegetables and fruits that are full in colors specially green ones. Here are some examples of food that will help you reduce weight:
- Salmon: Rich in Omega 3 fatty acids helps promotes weight loss and allows you to feel full longer in case you are staying with a certain diet plan.
- Broccoli: Aside from being high in fiber, it also contains nutrients such as Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Potassium and Calcium. According to an article Journal of Nutrition, Vitamin C and weight loss correlates with each other. It says that people who do not get enough vitamin C weigh more than those who consumer enough vitamin C.
- Kale: Not only this leafy vegetable contain vitamin C and other vitamins but this particular green is high in Calcium. Surprisingly enough, calcium plays a key role in weight loss because it helps break down and absorb fat.
An exercise a day keeps the doctors away
As an adult, we all are filled with responsibilities in our daily lives but is exercising one of them? No matter what you’re going through in life, putting some time to exercise or move your body regardless if its in the gym, running or even dancing helps you increase blood circulation in your body! So how much exercise should an adult prescribe to in order to maintain a healthy life style? According to an article written in medlineplus.gov for adults, it takes 150 minutes of moderate intensity of physical activity each week to be considered healthy. 150 minutes sounds a lot but with a proper approach on how you deal with time management will be key to successfully maintaining this life style. I find that breaking it down to 30 minutes a day instead of doing 150 minutes in one day relieves myself away from stress on how to deal with this issue. Exercising may seem like a tedious and boring tasks but what helps me to motivate myself are planning my work out routines, exercising with another person, or simply put some James Brownin music and start dancing. There are a lot of benefits of being active because it helps a person to not just be in shape or healthy but to reduce risks of acquiring chronic diseases. Try running, pumping irons, or salsa! No matter what way or form of body movement, it’s totally up to you as long as you enjoy the process.
Do you believe the life style you live dictates and says something about you? I believe that there is some partial truth in there. Again there is nothing wrong with consuming foods and beverages that you like or not exercising enough, what I’m trying to stress here is that we all need balance. One thing that I find about this unhealthy relationship with balance is our lack of discipline a.k.a “self-control” which I think is the root of unwell being. You can either wish to be something or somebody but without the discipline, you become delusion of the reality that’s in your head versus the given reality we live in. Or perhaps, the opposite of the spectrum which is extremism that may cause you to lose value or meaning in what you do because everything seems to be a chore rather than discovering some kind of fulfillment. Nothing of excess nor deficient of something according to the Greeks.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle may seems difficult but I think at the end of the day, it’s all about mentality. We all have a choice to make but ultimately, I think it’s up to each individual how they live with their lives. Its easy to live a life without thinking of consequences but reflecting from our experiences and educating ourselves will help us become aware of infinite possibilities if we don’t take care of our well-being. Its not easy to be in a path where you feel that your choices seems limited but I can assure you that people who take good care of themselves in a healthy manner tends to be a lot happier.
